Cast included Gertrude Lawrence, Oscar Shaw, Victor Moore, Harland Dixon, Betty Compton, Constance Carpenter, Gerald Oliver Smith, and the Fairbanks Twins, with Phil Ohman and Victor Arden at the pianos.
OH, KAY! marked the first appearance of the sparkling Gertrude Lawrence in a book musical after wowing audiences in London and New York in a series of smart musical revues. Her part in OH, KAY! was tailored to give her ample opportunity to operate in improbable situations as Kay, the sister of one of three bootleggers who have stored their stash in Jimmy Winter’s supposedly uninhabited summer home. Of course, it turns out that Jimmy returns with his new bride, creating all kinds of havoc and misunderstandings until Jimmy claims Kay as the next Mrs. Winter. Lawrence reprised her role in a successful London production the following season. The musical comedy has been revived many times in many different guises over the years.
